Background
Party: Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova (PLDM)
Valeriu Streleț was born in 1970 in Țareuca. He studied history at Moldova State University and economics at the Academy of Economic Studies. He taught political science at a Chișinău lyceum, worked in investment and ran private companies, and from 1994 to 2001 chaired the National Youth League of Moldova.
He is one of the founders of the PLDM (2007) and its vice-president from December 2007. He sat in Parliament from 2009 to 2015 and led the PLDM faction from 2011.
He became prime minister on 30 July 2015, after Gaburici's resignation and after the PLDM withdrew Maia Sandu's candidacy. The government relied on a renewed pro-European coalition (PLDM, PDM, PL) but fell within three months: on 29 October 2015 Parliament passed a no-confidence motion filed by the PSRM and PCRM, which PDM deputies joined.
