Background

Party: Liberal Party (PL)

Gheorghe Brega was born in 1951 in Drepcăuți, Briceni district, and graduated in 1974 from the Chișinău medical university, now the Nicolae Testemițanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy. He is a member of the Liberal Party.

He sat in Parliament from 2009 to 2015, during the years of the Alliance for European Integration governments. On 30 July 2015 he became deputy prime minister for social affairs in the Streleț cabinet.

After Parliament dismissed the Streleț government on 29 October 2015, President Timofti appointed Brega, one of the four deputy PMs, interim prime minister on 30 October. The caretaker cabinet stayed in office for almost three months, until the Filip government was invested on 20 January 2016. Brega's interim role was therefore a transitional stage rather than a mandate with its own programme.

After office

He remained Deputy PM for Social Affairs in the Filip government too (on the cabinet list submitted to Parliament on 20 January 2016, Moldpres). The Liberal Party left the coalition in late May 2017 (Adevărul); Wikipedia gives 30 May 2017 as the end of Brega's tenure, but the exact date is not confirmed by an official source. Later activity not verified.
