Background

Party: No declared party affiliation

Vitalie Pîrlog was born in 1974 in Nisporeni and studied international law at the Free International University of Moldova. He began as a legal consultant, then served as principal consultant in the Office of the President (1997-2001).

From 2001 he worked at the Ministry of Justice, heading the department for international relations and European integration and representing the government before the European Court of Human Rights. He sat on Council of Europe bodies. From 20 September 2006 he was minister of justice, a post he kept in the Greceanîi governments.

In September 2009, after Zinaida Greceanîi announced her resignation, he was named acting prime minister for eleven days, until the Filat government was invested. It was a transitional interim between Communist rule and the Alliance for European Integration; the sources consulted do not mention any major decisions taken in that interval.

After office

He led the NGO Alliance for Justice and Human Rights (2009-2017), was elected to INTERPOL's Commission for the Control of Files in 2016 and chaired it (March 2017 - March 2022), and was director of Moldova's SIS intelligence service (December 2017 - February 2018). In June 2025 he was detained in the UAE at France's request in an INTERPOL-related corruption case; the allegations are unproven and, per his lawyer, he denies them.
